Interview with Prof. dr. van den Herik |
Professor van den Herik, board member and one of the founders of the LDE Centre for BOLD Cities, held a (retirement) farewell address at Leiden University. Van den Herik is professor of Computer Science and Law at the Faculty of Science (since 2014) and at the Faculty of Law (since 1988) at Leiden University. His main work consists of being Chair of the Board of Directors of the Leiden Centre of Data Science (LCDS). After his farewell address, he was awarded with a royal decoration as Officer in the Order of Orange Nassau. We interviewed Prof. dr. van den Herik about his experiences at the Centre for BOLD Cities. |

Inaugural lectures |
Prof. dr. ing. Klievink, executive board member at the Centre for BOLD Cities and professor Digitalization and Public Policy at Leiden University, held his inaugural lecture, last September 17th, about how data and digitalization change the government. The lecture will be available online soon. Professor Alessandro Bozzon, affiliated with the LDE Centre for BOLD Cities, is professor of Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence at Delft University of Technology. Bozzon held his inaugural lecture 10 September in collaboration with Prof. dr. Peter Lloyd about how the co-evolution of humans and AI can design our future. A video of the lecture is available online. Prof. dr. Bregje van Eekelen is professor of Design, Culture and Society at Delft University of Technology. Van Eekelen held an inaugural lecture on 24 September entitled “Histories in the Making” where she discussed the reciprocal relationship between design and society. Team Science Research Design Session II |
This month the second Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Centre for BOLD Cities Team Science Research Design Session took place. This Design Session aimed, just like the first one in 2019, to allocate a part of its funding to relevant cooperative research with researchers in the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Universities. |

After a successful expert conference in 2019, organized in Rotterdam by the LDE Centre for BOLD Cities, Malmö University will organize a second edition of ‘Beyond Smart Cities Today’ in 2022 around the theme; Power, Justice and Resistance. |

In collaboration with the Centre for Bold Cities, Utrecht University and NWO, Waag has created the smart citizen walk. With a smart citizen walk-package, you can walk through Rotterdam, Utrecht and Amsterdam and think along about the future of datafication and digitalisation of public spaces. |
